The Work Do

Tonight I am going out for dinner and drinks with colleagues from work. Tonight it is actually someone's leaving do, but at the company where I work we do tend to go out at the end of every month just for a bit of a get together. I find this a good thing to do but in general it does seem like something that happens less and less. People who work together seem less inclined to hang out together outside office hours and to some people the thought of getting drunk with the people they work with is positively intimidating or boring - who wants to spend a night out talking shop right?!? The first time I went out with my boss I managed to get seriously drunk and have a go at him about how much he paid me, I don't even really remember doing this but it worked as I got a pay rise and two years later I'm still working in the same place so I did something right!!

So, do you drink with your boss??

Do you worry about getting into trouble for your behaviour on a night out and therefore avoid going out with work buddies at all?

Are your work mates just dicks and not people you want to be seen with?

I'd be interested to hear what you have to say!

But do you guys socialise with anyone else you work with or is it just your exclusive little club?

I never socialise at work

1. my colleagues are old and boring
2. most have kids and wives to go home to
3. 99% of them refuse to go anywhere other than the local area so they can get home quick - that rules out going anywhere decent in central london
4. At least 1 is a complete wanker and very embarrassing to be seen round.
5. they're all male and i am 20 years younger than everyone but 2 guys

I drink a lot with my team *hello nicole*. And yes, we all drink with MY boss as well. We are all journalists and they are very good with party and drinking. All together. Our partys are great.

I remember one of my birthday-partys here in the office where we - totally drunk - ordered a pizza UNDER the huge conference table and eat it there... Later some guy slept under it till the next morning the cleaners came to wake him up. It was fun *gg*

While working at powergen we went on a staff night out. After a few drinks at various pubs we decided to go for a boogey and we were denied entrance to a nightclub as a girl in our group of 15/20 people wasn't wearing shoey enough shoes. All I remember was being led away by my boss as I went on a rant about their crappy door policy and how I hoped their club went bust, while my boss was apologising to the bouncer and assuring him that I would be reprimanded at work...

I mainly work with slightly unnatractive women who are a fair bit older than me. I figure if works paying for me to drink i'll go along, but im not forking out for the privilege of being bored by their talk of where they shop, work, or some shite tv programme that only a fucking pleb would watch

Sounds like I'm quite lucky then really, most the people in my office are around my age and they're a good bunch so we have fun and get drunk when we go out.

We've never had a party actually in our office though, not sure my boss would trust me when I was drunk!

As for s0lo, I can't imagine you getting aggro with someone when you were drunk 80)

When i used to work at Sainsburys we used to get hammered most weekends in Maidstone as we all used to go to the same crappy bars and clubs

I was nick named "Sniffer" because i spent all my time sniffing after the girls. My boss told me off for "fraternising" with the staff

when in lived and worked in the UK, yes... I drank with my boss. It was actually a job requirement.

in the states? co-workers yes... but I have yet to hold a position where that we felt comfortable enough to invite the boss. it is usually not seen as appropriate.

The first time I went socialising with work collegues my boss dragged me into bed and threatened to sack as i tried to run away.

I was promoted only weeks later...

My boss stores his scotch in my office. Its sort of like drinking with your boss -- only he's doesn't have to be there. Does that count?
